The real decision is personal records or company operations
ReceGuard organizes one person's receipts, mileage, business-purpose notes, reminders, and tax evidence. There is no workspace to administer, no employee reimbursement chain, and no ReceGuard account. That smaller scope is a strength for independent users who do not want a finance platform.
Zoho Expense is designed for organizations. Receipts can become employee expenses, flow into reports, encounter policy checks, move through approvals, feed cards and accounting systems, and end in reimbursement. If several people must review or act on an expense, Zoho is built for that job.
Privacy is an architectural difference
ReceGuard uses Apple's Vision framework on the iPhone and does not operate a server that stores receipt images or extracted expense data. Optional synchronization uses the private CloudKit database associated with the user's Apple account.
Zoho Expense needs connected storage because receipts, reports, cards, policies, and approvals must be available to authorized users and integrations. Its pricing page includes receipt-storage allocations and account controls such as multi-factor authentication. That supports collaboration, but it creates a broader data route than ReceGuard's device-first model.
Zoho's free plan is unusually capable
Zoho lists a Free plan for up to three users with receipt OCR, expense reports, GPS mileage, personal-card tracking, accounting integrations, multi-currency expenses, global tax features, and 5 GB of receipt storage. The main constraint is 20 receipt scans per user each month.
ReceGuard's appeal is not the number of business features. It is the ability to build useful receipt and mileage records without registering a vendor account or sending receipt content to an external OCR service.
Where Zoho Expense is the better fit
Choose Zoho Expense for employees, manager approvals, reimbursements, corporate cards, accounting integrations, policy enforcement, multi-entity operations, and business travel. It is the substantially stronger platform for a finance team.
Where ReceGuard is the better fit
Choose ReceGuard for private personal records, sole-proprietor tax preparation, user-controlled mileage logging, return and warranty reminders, and a focused iPhone experience without organization setup or per-seat administration.
